With James Taylor’s “Something In The Way She Moves” on repeat, the family anxiously awaits their parents arrival down the wine cave. Dean and Clary were greeted by their granddaughter Bryce, who handed them two olive leaf crowns, representing Dean’s Greek roots. Camilo, Joanna and Charlie, the three kids’ significant others, conducted the ceremony as they all looked out over the beautiful California golf course during golden hour. Just when they think the surprise is over, Evanne and Regan sing “Beautiful” by Gordon Lightfoot, while brother Dean plays the guitar. This was the couple’s first dance song at their wedding, 40 years ago.
After the song is over, kisses and hugs a plenty, overcome with emotion, Dean starts to sing “True Companion” by Marc Cohn to his beautiful bride. He has everyone in tears, including me. The love between these two was palpable. The youngest of the bunch, Camilito wasn’t too keen on smiling. The whole group would yell, “Who has the whitest teeth?” and then he would give me the biggest smile and make everyone laugh. There was never a dull moment with this crew, so full of love and pure happiness, all dressed in white.
